Please reach us at office-info@iass.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
There are a lot of questions we ask ourselves that are specific to our personal situations. Who can we ask in the Human Resource department to find our answers? A new list of contacts has been created in SSO to help you find the right person. Here is a link to the Contact list.
Our Provincial Collective Agreement (S19) is an agreement between the Union and the management negotiating committee for English-language School Boards (CPNCA). The objective of the negotiations process for this agreement is to establish relations between the parties to determine the working conditions of employees as well as to draw up the appropriate procedures for solving issues.
The Local Agreement is negotiated between the Union and the School Board after the Provincial Collective Agreement has been signed. It must be finalized within 120 days of the signing of the Collective Agreement to replace or amend a previous Local Agreement.
Please refer to the "Employee Assistance Program" on the Documents download tab of this website; you will find the information you are looking for.
If you are a newly-hired employee or are not aware of how your IASS membership works, here is a recap:
Why do I pay Union dues?
There is a difference between a membership fee and union dues. In Quebec, everyone working in the public sector must belong to a union. As a support staff employee of the Lester B. Pearson School Board you belong to an independent union, the IASS (Independent Association of Support Staff) and therefore you pay union dues, which are one of the lowest rated of all the unions, and are automatically deducted from your pay.
So what is a Membership Fee?
When you were hired you should have received an IASS Membership Application Form from the Human Resources Department to register with the union. The expectation is that you have not yet paid union dues. The Labor Code stipulates that you must have paid at least $2.00 in dues to the union at the time of registration.
What do I get for my $2.00?
Signing a membership form and paying the $2.00 fee (as a new employee) entitles you to voting privileges. Only members have the right to vote; to elect Union Executive members, run for a position as workplace IASS delegate or to hold a post on any IASS committee.
Where do I find the membership form?
The form can be found on the IASS website under Downloads: Forms.
Send the completed form, along with the $2.00 (if you are a new employee) via inter-board mail to the IASS Office, c/o St. John Fisher Sr. If you are not certain of your membership status, feel free to contact the Union Office. 514-426-1003
Compensatory time are hours to cover the 4 shut down days at Christmas, not already paid as holidays. It is any time you work outside of your schedule to complete tasks OUTSIDE of your regular work. This is not extra time to finish your daily work.
Compensatory time is only to be used to make up the 4 days at Christmas and is worked at straight time. It is the responsibility of your Administrator/Principal/Director to provide you with opportunities to complete these hours and should be discussed at the beginning of the Calendar Year.
Remember you can use any one of your 3 allotted PLA Days , leaving 3 days to be covered and you are also allowed to use vacation days to cover these 4 days.
You can also opt out of doing Compensatory time as this is optional. You must submit your decision to opt out of Compensatory time by the deadline on the "Compensatory Time Sheet".
Although compensatory time sheets are to be submitted in April, you have until the end of June to make up the time.
Keep track of your compensatory time—continue to complete the Board Compensatory Time Sheet which is to be submitted to Sharon Lingle in Human Resources by April of every year.
EASTER TUESDAY IS A LEGAL HOLIDAY FOR SUPPORT STAFF
It is not a work-off day for support staff. This day is included in the Local Arrangements agreement under the 5-2.00 Paid Legal Holidays.
Due to the fact that support staff do not report to work that day, the Lester B. Pearson School Board
designates the day as a Board-wide Ped Day.
That the NON-MONEYABLE DAYS, which can be seen on your paystub, CAN BE ADDED TO YOUR VACATION PERIOD IF...
You are fifty-five(55) years of age or over and are retiring as of July 2022 or anytime during the 2021-2022 school year.
Yes. This is covered under Special Leaves 5-1.01 of our Provincial collective agreement. You are allowed one paid day for moving, however, an employee is not entitled to more than one day off per year for this purpose.
No. You are not allowed to add a PLA day to extend a break of five days or more. In the case of an unforeseen situation you will be required to provide proof of reason for the absence.
On July 1 of every year, the board shall credit each employee covered by article 5-3.42 with seven (7) working days of sick leave. The seven moneyable days are noncumulative but, when not used during the year, they are redeemable on June 30th.
Six (6) additional sick days are granted to the employee at the time of hiring. These non-moneyable days are only used for a situation during your employment with the school board where you may have used all of your annual sick days due to a lengthy or frequent illness(es). If the six days have not been used at the end of your employment, they are not redeemable or reimbursable.
The annual Seniority List for Support Staff can be found on SSO and is updated every year after June 30th and posted in August.
It is located under Human Resources...Staffing...Support Staff. From there, you can choose to view the list in alphabetical layout or separated by classification (function). This is also where you can find the priority list.
Please reach us at office-info@iass.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
